Through the analysis of a corpus of educational books published between 1797 and 1838, the author of this article examines howtheAmerican Revolution (1775-1783) was presented in France. The first section addresses the civic and political dimensions of the American Revolution in the education of French youth. The second section studies adaptations of major works for schoolaged children. Finally, the emergence of history books (abridged and short summaries) representing the American Revolution from a narrative perspective testifies to the growing importance of this discipline. The article concludes by exploring the reasons why the American Revolution was taught in France during the first half of the nineteenth century.
