Very often, the notion of the field has been either upheld as solid truth, or rejected as mere fantasy. What stands half way between those interpretations is the idea of experience, which flexible meaning might help bring together both the field and the theoretical research. On the field, however, reality can withstand the working hypothesis which can be compared to desires when the object of study is a subject, or to interlocutors who are likely to have an opinion on the relevance of the researcher’s questionings. At that point, the field seems to be a learning ground allowing the researcher to push his/her investigation further. Beyond the appearances revealed by the representations and above all the figurations of space, the realm of representations itself should be thoroughly questioned, as the facts and the values or the norms allowing their assessment and evaluation no longer overlap. At that stage, the mobility of references is bound to make scientific research humble and cautious. But this is also the moment when new challenging leads may come up.
