Understatement and a frame of reference that is often absent or enigmatic make it difficult, in some respects, to convey the poetry of Philippe Denis in another language, in this case Spanish. When confronted with this work marked by restraint, by “lyrical aphasia”, the translator must at times take a step towards the reader, while striving not to stray away from the author, ideally preserving both the meaning and the form.
